TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A crash involving multiple vehicles left one person dead and several others injured on Interstate 75 in Tampa Thursday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The incident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate, just south of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
The Highway Patrol said a driver lost control of their SUV and hit a flatbed semi-truck. The two vehicles were redirected to the right side of the highway, where they hit a sedan and another SUV.
The sedan and the semi-truck continued traveling to the right shoulder and hit two trucks that were hauling mobile homes, which had stopped on the shoulder and merge lane leading to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
The Highway Patrol said one of the commercial vehicles’ drivers was standing outside the truck and was struck by one of the other vehicles. The 26-year-old, who is from Shreve, Ohio, died at the scene.
Troopers said several other people were injured, but no one suffered life-threatening injuries. They were taken to area hospitals.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were reopened hours after the incident.
