Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are investigating a six vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of 102nd Avenue just west of the intersection with 97th Street.
According to preliminary information from FHP, a 55 year-old male from St. Petersburg was operating an SUV eastbound on 102nd Avenue. A pickup truck, SUV and Truck Tractor were stopped at the intersection of 97th Street North. Two other SUVs were slowing for the stopped vehicles.
The driver of the first SUV failed to slow or stop and collided with the rear of the vehicle that was slowing, resulting in a chain reaction crash.
All six vehicles came to final rest in the roadway with the driver of the first SUV suffering fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
Two other drivers, a 46 year-old Seminole woman and a 75 year-old man, were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The roadway reopened at approximately 6:30 p.m.
