At 8:43 AM on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, the Largo Police Department, along with the Traffic Homicide Unit, responded to a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of 130th Ave N and 113th St N.
The incident occurred when a burgundy Nissan Altima, traveling south in the turn lane on 113th St N, failed to yield to a BMW 535i heading north on 113th St N and had the right of way.
The Nissan struck the BMW as it was making an eastbound turn onto 130th Ave N. The Nissan came to rest on its roof, trapping the male driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local trauma center.
The driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and chose not to receive medical treatment at the scene, signing a medical refusal.
It appears that the driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. According to investigators, alcohol was not a contributing factor in the incident, and there are presently no pending criminal charges associated with the collision.
