TAMPA, Fla. — A man allegedly driving a stolen vehicle with a license revoked for over a decade and while high, led law enforcement on a high-speed chase before crashing into another car.
Edwin Carrion-Andino, 39, was driving a Nissan Sentra, which was reported stolen out of the Tampa Police Department, on Polk Parkway when a Lakeland police officer who was looking for him tried to make a traffic stop around 9 p.m. Friday.
Carrion-Andino sped away and led the officer on a chase going about 95 to 110 mph as he drove onto westbound I-4, almost crashing into numerous vehicles as he drove on the shoulder of the road, according to police.
Multiple units from the Lakeland Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol chased him as he weaved in and out of numerous vehicles, according to the arrest report.
He eventually crashed on the on-ramp to I-75 in Hillsborough County. When he crashed, Carrion-Andino got out of the car and tried to run away but was caught by a Lakeland police K-9 named Mako.
According to his arrest report, Carrion-Andino has had a revoked driver’s license since 2003. Police said the most recent suspension came in March 2023 when he didn’t pay a traffic ticket.
When deputies were speaking with him, they noticed he was talking slowly, and he told deputies that he used marijuana and molly prior to driving, according to the arrest report.
He is facing five felony and three misdemeanor charges including aggravated fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of a crash with injury and offenses against police animals.
