A tragic accident on Sunday, July 30, 2023, claimed the life of a motorcyclist after a collision with a vehicle on Ulmerton Road. The incident occurred around 8:55 p.m. when the motorcyclist, traveling in the inside westbound lane on Ulmerton Road and approaching Wilcox Road, collided with an eastbound red Kia Optima attempting to make a left turn onto Wilcox Road under a yellow flashing turn signal.
The helmeted motorcyclist, age 20 of Clearwater, attempted to stop to avoid the collision but unfortunately collided with the passenger side of the sedan. Following the crash, emergency responders arrived promptly and transported him to HCA Florida Largo Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts to save his life, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
At this time, the identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not been disclosed to the public. The 22-year-old female driver from Largo remained at the scene after the crash. Crews from Largo Fire Rescue evaluated her for any injuries they may have sustained during the collision.
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the factors that led to the collision. All westbound lanes of Ulmerton Road were closed during the on-scene crash investigation.
